Hello, my name is Changwei Zhou, and I am the founder of Biochi, an organic tea lounge in Belgium dedicated to offering authentic Chinese tea.
I was born and raised in China, where tea is an integral part of the culture and lifestyle. After moving to Belgium to study at the University of Antwerp, I graduated with a degree in business administration. In 2008, I began working for a food company but soon realized that I was not passionate about their products, which contained artificial additives and preservatives.
One day, while walking with my family in Sint-Niklaas, I noticed billboards advertising commercial beverages. These beverages claimed to be healthy and refreshing, but I knew they were full of sugar and chemicals. This inspired me to create a tea lounge that would offer healthier and tastier options, made with natural ingredients and traditional methods.
In January 2014, a blood test revealed alarming results, including high cholesterol, high fat levels, and a risk of diabetes. Determined to improve my health, I decided to change my habits by switching to tea and eating more balanced meals. The results were remarkable; my blood test results improved dramatically, and I felt more energetic and happier.
In November 2014, I opened Biochi Waasland in Stationsstraat, Sint-Niklaas, followed by Biochi Antwerp in 2017. Our tea lounges feature the charm of traditional oriental style, utilizing 100% natural and recycled materials to create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. We attract tea lovers from all over the world, who come to enjoy our wide selection of teas and our delicious DIMSUM and dumplings, made with fresh and organic ingredients.
At Biochi, we are an EU-certified organic tea trader and retailer. The name “Biochi” combines “bio,” meaning nature, and “chi,” meaning energy and China. We serve only real tea (Camellia sinensis), pure, original, and organic. Our tea is sourced directly from farmers in China, who grow and process their tea with respect for the environment and ancient traditions.
We are dedicated to educating our customers about the history, culture, and benefits of tea, as well as how to brew and enjoy it properly. Our tea is for those who care about what they drink and eat. Enjoying a cup of tea is more than just quenching your thirst; pairing it with DIMSUM or dumplings is more than just satisfying your appetite. It is about holistic well-being, finding peace, happiness, and recharging with positive energy.
